13 Texas Bridge Series Hopefuls Tackle Another Bridge

We'd like to congratulate 13 Texas Bridge Series hopefuls who added a brand-new bridge race to their fall racing calendar on Sunday, November 4 when they finished the Pleasure Island Bridge Half Marathon or 10K in Port Arthur, Texas.

All three finishers in the half marathon won their age group, while Jerry Sonnier was sixth overall and Dana Andrae was the fourth fastest female.

Jon and Dawn Burris won age group awards in the 10K as Jon was first and Dawn was third.  Monica Kattner also picked up a third place age group award, while Ryan Richard won his 40-44 division.

The complete list of finishers is as follows:

Half Marathon
Andrae, Dana, Austin
Henny, Leo, Lake Charles, LA
Sonnier, Jerry, Beaumont

10K
Airey, Melanie, Galveston
Amy, Tod, Nederland
Binder, Daniel, Houston
Boykin, Jill, Beaumont
Burris, Dawn, Beaumont
Burris, Jon, Beaumont
Kattner, Monica, Devers
McWherter, Melinda, Vidor
Richard, Ryan, Beaumont
Storbeck, Tim, Beaumont

The event was produced by the Sports Society for American Health, led by Rich and Amie James, who also put on the Exygon and Baptist Hospitals Gusher Marathon, which is one week before Running Alliance Sport's Seabrook Lucky Trails Marathon.

Participants in the 10K and Half Marathon cleared the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Bridge twice.  The Bridge is 5,032 feet in length and 138 feet above the Sabine-Neches Canal, which is equivalent in over-the-water clearance to Corpus Christi's Harbor Bridge.

The La Porte By The Bay Half Marathon, the final race of the Texas Bridge Series, goes over and back the Fred Hartman Bridge, whose over-the-water clearance, makes the race the highest off the ground half marathon in Texas.

The Prude Ranch Races, held the first weekend in August in Fort Davis, play host to the highest half marathon in Texas where the elevation above sea level is approximately 6,000 feet.
